MERV'S PULLED PORK IN 3 EASY STEPS
Merv just loves pulled pork, but he also loves to keep things simple. So to pay homage to my hubby's simplistic philosophy, I perfected a pulled pork recipe that requires a pork shoulder, 3 basic ingredients and 3 easy steps.
Here's my take off on this classic old country recipe. Hope you enjoy it. -Helen
INGREDIENTS:
PORK SHOULDER/BUTT
MINCED GARLIC
ONION SOUP MIX
ROOT BEER
STEP 1
TENDERIZE
Take the pork shoulder and put it in a bag, or a marinating container like the one I use. Add a teaspoon of minced garlic along side the pork. (I cheat and buy mine pre-minced, in a bottle)
Pour in 1 can of root beer or however much is needed to cover the meat. However, I do not recommend using diet root beer, because the sugar is really a necessary part of the tenderizing process. Then, let it soak overnight.
STEP 2
SEASON & COOK
Put the pork shoulder into a crock pot and rub the top with 1 packet of dried onion soup mix. Also, add a fresh can of root beer, along with 2 more teaspoons of minced garlic. Cook on low for 8 -10 hours.
STEP 3
REMOVE & SHRED
When the pork is done cooking the meat will be so tender it will practically fall apart. Remove it from the crock pot and let it drain for about 10 minutes. Then, simple shred it by pulling it apart with 2 forks.
And voila! It's just that simple.
After it's shredded, add salt & pepper to taste, serve with your favorite sauce, or pile it high on a bun. Yum!
